Bhilai Steel Plant ended the April to October period of current fiscal Year (FY) with best ever performances by Modex units including Blast Furnace 8, Steel Melting Shop 3, Universal Rail Mill, Bar & Rod Mill and Refractory Materials Plant 3. Among techno-economic parameters, best ever Coke Rate was recorded by the Plant’s Blast Furnaces for April-Oct period. The Plant also recorded highest ever finished steel production for April to October period.
Modex unit Blast Furnace 8 recorded highest ever hot metal production at 1.58 million tonnes (MT) for April to October period as against previous best of 1.57 MT in corresponding April-Oct period of last fiscal year 23-24.
Steel Melting Shop 3, another Modex unit recorded highest cast steel production at 2.04 million tonnes (MT) as against previous best of 1.99 MT in corresponding April-Oct period of last fiscal year 23-24. This included best ever production of billets at 1.33 MT against previous best of 1.32 MT in corresponding April-Oct period of last fiscal year 23-24.
Another Modex unit, Bar & Rod Mill also recorded best ever production of 5.68 lakh T during April to Oct period of current FY as against previous best of 5.64 lakh T in corresponding April-Oct period of last fiscal year 23-24.
Universal Rail Mill, also a Modex unit recorded best ever prime rail production of 4.88 lakh Tonnes as against previous best of 4.73 lakh T in corresponding April-Oct period of last fiscal year 23-24. This included best ever Long Rail production of 4.71 lakh T surpassing previous best of 4.54 lakh T in April – Oct period of last FY. Total Long Rail Production including long rails from Rail & Strl Mill was also the highest at 5.80 lakh T as against previous best of 5.41 lakh T of corresponding period of last FY 23-24.
Total Loading of Long Rails at 5.80 lakh tonnes was best ever for the period, surpassing previous best of 5.53 lakh tonnes in April to Oct period of last FY 23-24. This included highest ever loading of 1.06 lakh T of Long Rails from RSM, surpassing previous best of 87,141 T in April to Oct period of last FY 23-24. Loading of 4.73 lakh T of Long Rails from URM was also the highest, surpassing previous best of 4.66 lakh T in April to Oct period of last FY 23-24.
Total Production of Lime and Calcined dolomite by another Modex unit RMP 3 at 3.72 lakh Tonnes was the best ever for April to Oct period, surpassing previous best of 2.93 lakh T recorded in April to Oct of last fiscal year 23-24. The Plant has recorded highest ever finished steel production at 2.729 million tonnes (MT) in April to October period as against previous best of 2.728 MT in corresponding April to Oct period of last FY 23-24.
Among techno-economic parameters, best ever Coke Rate of 433 Kg per tonne of hot metal (kg/THM) was recorded at Blast Furnaces for April to Oct period of current FY, as against previous best of 446 Kg/THM recorded in corresponding April-Oct period of fiscal year 2020-21. Best ever coal dust injection (CDI) rates for April-Oct period were recorded by Blast Furnaces 4,5,7 and 8. The Plant’s Blast Furnaces have together also recorded best ever monthly coal dust injection (CDI) rate of 151 kg/THM in the month of Oct 24 as against previous best of 148 kg/THM recorded in September 2024.
